Haley Faith, multi-Media artist, based out of Houston, TX concerns herself with the pursuit of visually documenting her subconscious. Inspired by the turbulent energy from Mother Nature and the mind. Her creative process begins with abstract observation guided by natural occurrences in the environment as she’s observed the destructive nature of hurricanes coming from the Gulf of Mexico. As hurricanes don’t discriminate when it comes causing haphazard damage seems to have no rhyme or reason just as mental illness has no bounds for who it takes. Struck by the unforgiving nature of hurricanes and mental illness. Finding that both become an all consuming event seemingly impossible to escape, only left to endure. Intervention from the others seems to be the answer for restoration in both the mind and environment.
Enduring the relentless storm of mental illness, Bullington’s work reflects the dichotomy between extreme depression to euphoric highs working past the two extremes to find a middle path, a balance. Large washes of foundational color serve to portray the multitude of environmental changes juxtaposed to the restless gestural marks of psychosis and depression. Fascinated with the spaces suspended from reality, floating in a dimension paying no attention to the constant call of gravity. Surreal spaces begging for exploration. Struck with wonder and inspiration by the subconscious bridging the gaps in-between. Traces of uncontrollable chaos point to the disease taking over the body causing the person to act beyond their mind. Exiting a state of pandemonium yearning for limitations and order entering the realm of reality and sanity, the canvas reflects, finally, a place to rest expressed through color field painting. Finding a place in between the extreme high and dark lows lies a balance between chaos and surreality, the balance.
